Biographical / Historical

The aim of the experiment was to make a controlled comparison of purebred with crossbred and inbred sheep and to discover the effects of intensive inbreeding in sheep. The three types of breeding systems employed were integrated so as to yield information about the genetic constitution of particular breeds and characters. The experiment was run at Blythbank, with predictions being checked against results from sheep selection projects at Stanhope and Rhydyglafes.
