Biographical / Historical
RoBoGen was a long term genomics/QTL experiment with cattle using crosses between Holsteins and Charolais. In collaboration with university partners in Bristol, Glasgow and Nottingham, over 50 traits were measured, including those for growth, feed efficiency, lactation and reproduction, meat yield, disease and fertility. The project received funding from BBSRC, MAFF, the Meat and Livestock Commission and the Milk Development Council. Roslin Institute entered into a contract with MAFF under the LINK Sustainable Livestock Production programme, and with support from DEFRA, to carry out research into bovine genome mapping ('Roslin Bovine Genome Mapping: A Themed Approach').
