Scope and Contents

Volume of newspaper clippings, letters, and printed pamphlets. The subjects covered change with the orientation of the book:

From the front, the subject is the Irish Potato Famine, and contains materials dated 1845-1846. Interleaved throughout the newspaper clippings are letters and notes, as well as pamphlets about potato disease, many of which are written by Johnston. Other sources for the pamphlets include the Philosophical Society of Glasgow, reports by John F. Hodges, the Highland and Agricultural Society's Hall, and the Royal Dublin Society.

From the back, the subject changes to papal aggression with materials dated 1850-1851. Interleaved throughout are letters, notes, and bulletins.
