This fonds consists of 18 volumes of manuscript notes taken at medical lectures at the University of Edinburgh between 1873 and 1874. At the front of each volume the subject of the lecture and the name of the lecturer is provided.The subjects covered are:

These ms notes of the lectures on Anatomy and Surgery given by Henry Cline (1750-1827) and Astley Cooper (1768-1841) were taken down by Robert Bickersteth. Cline was a surgeon at St. Thomas's Hospital, London, and Cooper was a surgeon in London too.
The notes are in ink, sometimes on both recto and verso of the leaf, but usually on the rectos only. There are occasional drawings.

The papers cover the years 1876 to 1910 and contains a great many autograph letters from eminent anatomists and medical men, including ten letters from Joseph Lister. There is also a substantial sequence of notebooks and working papers containing detailed notes of experiments and dissections together with drawings and drafts for lectures, and a separate sequence of manuscripts for lectures and addresses. Content Description
This notebook contains lectures on the works of Aristotle, dictated by Thomas Craufurd, Regent of Philosophy at the University of Edinburgh, and taken down by student George Dalgliesh. The lectures cover the third and fourth years of Dalgliesh’s degree, and, besides logic and metaphysics, deal with scientific subjects such as physics, astronomy, and anatomy. The notes are embellished with humorous doodles.
