Scope and Contents The correspondence covers many aspects of Beale's early career, including his applications for various placements following his demobilisation from the army, his work with Tracy Sonneborn, his appointment to the Institute of Animal Genetics and professional correspondence with colleagues around the world. Scope and Contents

The correspondence spans the period from Tait's arrival at Beale's laboratory, his visit to the Department of Microbiology at the University of Colorado Medical Center in 1973 and his continuing work at the Institute of Animal Genetics. There are also letters regarding Beale's recommendations of Tait for Fellowship of the Royal Society.

Much of the correspondence appears to consist of Tait's letters to Beale, with copies of Beale's replies not present.

Correspondence chiefly concerns the establishment and progress of Walliker's MRC research programme at the Institute of Animal Genetics, conditions regarding his grant and Beale's recommendation of him for a University professorship.

Except for a few early letters, copies of Beale's own replies to Walliker are not present.

The earlier part of the correspondence concerns Gibson's research within the Institute of Animal Genetics. Later material concerns his research work at the University of East Anglia, as well as Beale's role as his academic referee.

Scope and Contents Notebook contains daily laboratory notes relating to experiments on the velocity of absorption of 'D' antibodies in transforming animals and rates of immobilisation at different temperatures with antisera.
