Inivitation to James Geikie to attend the 250th anniversary celebrations of the receipt by the society of its royal charter in July 1662.
Lecture Notes of John Robison
Lecture notes from the time when Robison was Professor of Natural Philosophy at the University of Edinburgh. The notes embrace the sciences of mechanics, hydrodynamics, astronomy and optics, together with electricity and magnetism.
It is assumed that these are Robison's own notes but this has not been verified.
Letter from Keith Vickerman requesting Beale's nomination of Bland Finlay for Fellowship of the Royal Society, 14 July 2000
The letter is accompanied by a typescript of Finlay's resume and a joint publication by Finlay and S.C. Maberly, Microbial Diversity in Priest Pot: a productive pond in the English Lake District (Freshwater Biological Association, 2000).

Marshall writes that he is sending copies of Ewart's obituary notice which he wrote for the Royal Society. He hopes that Mrs Ewart does not mind him including some lines from her letters in the piece.

Pressland offers information on heredity, following a paper Ewart gave at the Royal Society in London. He cites several instances of cattle with exceptional colouring.

Harrison writes that he has the permission of the President of the Royal Society in giving back to Ewart the plates of his paper on the Ancestors of Horses. He is also sending Ewart a copy of the paper itself on loan.
Letter to Sir Charles Lyell from George Scrope, 29 July 1858
Letter to Sir Charles Lyell from George Scrope concerning a paper dealing with the Upheaval Theory which Lyell had submitted for publication in the Royal Society's Philosophical Transactions. Scrope is pleased with the paper which contains a challenge to the theory which he describes as an "intolerable absurdity". He discusses Homboldts Cosmos which he gave little credence to and goes on to discuss lava flows in Vesuvius, Madeira and Tenerife and the formation of pumice, 29 July 1858.
