Dunfermline College of Physical Education Old Students' Association (1912-:)

 Organization

Biography

The Old Students Association was formed shortly after the first set of students from Dunfermline College of Hygiene and Physical Training (as the College was originally called) had started their teaching career. It proved initially difficult to make it an active Association as there were no opportunities for meeting together and the members were few at first. However in April 1912 there was a large gathering of Dunfermline Old Students, who met together and re-formed the association on a larger and firmer basis than before. A Secretary was appointed with the duties of keeping in touch with each successive set of students, and to achieve this each set had a representative chosen before leaving the College. The secretary also published a report annually, giving items of news of the College, members of the Association and matters of personal interest. Today the objectives of the Association are the same - to keep members in touch with one another, to keep members informed of the work of the College and the current trends in student training, and to publish an annual report and Set News Magazine. Membership of the Association is open to all former students of DCPE and graduates of the Bachelor of Education degree in PE from the Scottish Centre for Physical Education, Movement and Leisure Studies. The policy of the Association is carried out by an executive Committee of 11 members.
