Friends of Edinburgh University Library (1962-)

 Organization

Description

The establishment of the Friends of Edinburgh University Library (a recognised charity) followed an appeal made in 1962, with a leaflet sent to arround 22,000 people, most of whom were former staff or students of the University. An inagural meeting was held on 1 November 1962, where a constitution was adopted.

The Friends act as a channel for and assist in the purchase of rare and valuable items, which the Library could not otherwise acquire, and otherwise promote the reputation of the Library and its collections.
