The song is composed of ten lines and contains a number of amendments and annotations in pencil. The text has been scored through in ink with the following written transversely across it 'B[ook] [-] P[age] [-] Trans[cribed] 16 June 1869 A[lexander] A[rchibald] C[armichael]'.
