Scope and Contents Story about how Iain Muideartach's [Iain Mùideartach or John MacDonald of Clanranald] gave fishing rights of Auin t-Eile up to Lochseille [Abhainn Seile/River Shiel and Loch Seile/Loch Shiel, Earra Ghàidheal/Argyllshire] and in exchange for a deerhound. The deerhound was exceptional being '3½ f[ee]t high & 1½ deep in chest', it ate a whole stirk one night and it also 'chased a stag came up to it at Auin Dheidain [Abhainn Dhèabh] struck it in the hind leg with his tale (sic) & broke it.'...

Scope and Contents Story entitled 'Cu Du Mhic a Phi' [Cù Dubh Mhic a' Phì] collected from Archibald Currie, shoemaker, Àird na Monadh, Uibhist a Deas/South Uist. The story tells of the wife of the shepherd called Mac a' Phì who lives by Loch Ollabhat and is asked to provide cloth by a lady at Loch Olabhat/Loch Olavat and Bailemhanaich/Balivanich both Beinn na Faoghla/Benbecula. She panics that she will not be able to meet the task and summons the fairies to help. Realising that it was probably unwise to enlist...

Scope and Contents Transciption notebook belonging to Alexander Carmichael. The inside front cover is inscribed in ink with 'Bought at Wadebridge Cornwall Dec[ember] 1 1864 p 1/6 A A Carmichael' and the opposite page has 'A A Carmichael' written on it in pencil. The notebook contains Fenian songs or tales mainly collected in Uibhist a Deas/South Uist and Beinn na Faoghla/Benbecula, some of which are repeated in full or in part. These include 'Laoidh na Muileartaich', 'Duan an Deirg' and 'A' Bhraoin Chaorain'....
