Biography

Oswald Rae was born and raised in Reading, Berkshire. In 1915, he joined the Royal Corps of Engineers and was in active service until 1918. In 1919 he was in Germany with the Army of Occupation. During the war, he gave performances to fellow troops in France, and on his return from Germany he joined a concert party in Exmouth, England. In 1921 he became manager of De Mond's Concert Party Enterprises, in Skegness. He left them in 1922 and 'went into vaudeville'. Thereafter he mostly did society entertaining, performing before the Queen of Belgium, the Prince of Wales, the Princess of Monaco, and others.

In 1928 Rae formed the British Ring of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, and he was its President until 1947. In 1962 he celebrated his 50th year as a professional entertainer.

Oswald Rae, magician, died on 8 October 1967, aged 74 years.
