Biography

George Smith-Graham was an Edinburgh-born banker who spent his life in South-Africa. He was the son of George Graham, a printer, and Mary Lyle, and he was the brother of William, also a banker and published author.

While William stayed in Scotland, George went to South Africa and worked in the Standard Bank of South Africa. He settled there, married and had a family, living in Queenstown and then moving South to the Cape, where they had a house called Sidcot in Irwinton Road at Sea Point, Cape Town. In their latter years George and his wife retired to country life at Avondale, a farm which he bought near Queenstown.
