Biography
John Borthwick married Peggy, the sister of Agnes Greig, who married William Anderson. He settled the account for the funeral expenses of Robert Anderson in 1765 and was probably his executor. The same year, Borthwick was witness to the Registrate Factory in favour of James Anderson, William's brother, collecting the rents in Foulis' Close; and in 1768, he was witness to William Anderson’s marriage to Agnes Greig. His own marriage to Peggy Greig had taken place in 1762, when he wrote to her making arrangements. John and Peggy Borthwick had two sons, Robert and John.
