Biography

Robert Emmet was an Irish nationalist, Republican and rebel leader. He was born in Dublin in 1778 to Robert Emmet (1729-1802), state physician, and his wife, Elizabeth Mason (1740-1803). After leading an abortive rebellion against British rule in 1803 he was captured then tried and executed for high treason against the British king.

Song titled "Emmets Last Words!" Referring to Irish nationalist Robert Emmet, who led a short rebellion against British rule in 1803 and was subsequently executed for high treason. The poem speaks of his ill-fated love affair with Sarah Curran, daughter of the celebrated radical barrister John Philpot Curran. He was a favourtie hero for the romantic poets, most particularly Thomas Moore. This song was sold to music publisher D'Almaine and Co.
