Biography

Robert Crombie Saunders was born in Glasgow on 23 April 1914. He was a poet, editor, journalist and teacher, and a well known figure in the Scottish Literary Renaissance of that period. He was friends with many of the best known Scottish writers of the 20th century, such as Sorley MacLean, Hugh MacDiarmid and Norman MacCaig. His own poetry was written in both English and Scots, and he supported the 'Lallans' movement, to revive Scots as a serious literary language.
