Biography
John Kerr Butter was born in Forfar, Angus, in 1856, the son of John Brand Butter and Janet Kerr. He was educated at the University of Aberdeen and set up a medical practice in Cannock, Staffordshire in the 1890s and resided at Highfield House on Wolverhampton Road there, where he had a private zoo. He died in 1920.

Scope and Contents
Butter asks for advice on breaking in and handling the two zebras he has purchased from Carl Hagenbeck in Hamburg. He writes that natural history is his greatest hobby, and that he recalls Ewart from his time at Aberdeen University, where Butter was a student.
