Biography

Joseph Dobrée Le Mesurier was a Canadian medical student at the University of Edinburgh in the 1870s. He matriculated in 1869. Before this, he had attended Bishop's College in Lennoxville, Hellmuth College in Ontario (which is now known as Western University), Laval University, and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Lower Canada.

During his time in Edinburgh, he was a member of the Edinburgh University Athletic Club, and in 1870 won 1st prize in Throwing a Cricket Ball for a distance of 99 yards and 1 ft. In 1871 and 1872 he participated in the Scottish Inter-Universities Sports (a sportive competition between Edinburgh, Glasgow and St Andrews) where he once again won medals for 'throwing a cricket ball', at a distance of 100 yards and 2 inches in 1871, and 108 yards and 10 inches in 1872.
