Biography

Certificate of Social Study, 1949. Born in Pelang, Malaya to an English physician and an Irish mother, Jeanne went to school in Scotland. She fled Singapore with the mother and sister in 1941 to Batavia and then to Sydney. Her father who had been superintendant of the main hospital in Singapore, was interned by the Japanese and died as a result of maltreatment. Jeanne completed her schooling in Sydney and then travelled to Durban to join members of her father's family resident in Natal. She married medical graduate and neuroscientist Kresimir Krnjevic in Edinburgh in 1954 and the couple emigrated to the United States.
