The Valley Section, c.1910
Illustration of a valley section showing social types in their native habitat and in their parallel urban manifestations. May also be labelled as 'The Valley Section: Its resultant occupations and corresponding types of settlements'. This was the starting point of Patrick Geddes' system of 'place, folk, work'; derived from Frédéric Le Play, 1806-1882.
