Draft letter from Joseph Black to the Earl of Buchan, dated 6 October 1790. The letter is about a kiln for making lime out of marble and Papillon's hygrometer. The item also contains a printed notice of a meeting of commissions, dated 28 April 1790 to roup dung.

His collection of charters and other papers is of national importance and the most distinguished of its kind in any Scottish university. It is an essential source for the 18th century, and a much used one for all periods of Scottish history from the earliest times.
