Scope and Contents Notebook 181 starts on 4 January 1853 and the final date listed is March 14 (p. 102). Lyell is based in London. He attends the Annual General Meeting of the Geological Society, and the notebook primarily contains notes on the topics presented, with perhaps a focus on Forbes Lectures, all on which are written on the left hand pages of the notebook.
