Biography

Julius Victor Carus was born in Leipzig. He served as curator of the Museum of Comparative Anatomy at the University of Oxford from 1849-1851. He served as Professor of Comparative Anatomy and Director of the Zoological Museum at the University of Leipzig in 1853. He was an early supporter of Darwinism and translated Darwin's collected works into German, which were issued in 1875.
