Biography
John Tulloch was born in 1823 at Dron, south of Bridge of Earn in Perthshire, Scotland. He was educated at Perth Grammar School. He studied Divinity at the Universities of St. Andrews and Edinburgh. He was licensed to preach by the Presbytery of Perth in March 1844, and was ordained as minister of St. Paul's church in Dundee in 1845. In 1849 he served as minister in Kettins, Strathmore. In 1854 Tulloch was appointed as Principal of St. Mary's College, University of St. Andrews. He served as Professor of systematic theology, apologetics, and comparative religion.
In 1862, Tulloch was appointed clerk of the General Assembly and served on the councils of the Church of Scotland. In 1878, he was chosen to be Moderator of the General Assembly.
