Biography

Mary Boott was married to American botanist Francis Boott (1792-1863).

Mary Boott's mother, Mrs Hardcastle, was educated by Dr Erasmus Darwin, Charles Darwin's grandfather. In a letter to his friend J. D. Hooker dated January 1864, Charles Darwin states that he suspects Mary's mother was one of his grandfather's illegitimate daughters.
