Handwritten article 'On 'Creeps' and 'Thrusts' in Coal Mines' by Mr. Buddle dated 8th February 1841 [also says 1840], sent by Thomas Sopwith to Charles Lyell. Includes drawing showing pillars of coal, and makes reference to a good example at Percy Main Colliery.

1) 'The figures given by him for Elements [of Geology] are [all this text all added at a later date] Original Models'. Sopwith confirms that models used on p. 57 of the 'Elements' are original designs, not copies. Gives some detail as to the provenance of his design, in defence of enquiries by Lyell, and a Mr. Farcey. Hopes Lyell can reference the models in his next edition. Invites him to view Moelwyn mountain, which can be seen from the Woods & Forests...
