Eyre, Henry James, 1807-1894
Biography
Henry Eyre was the son of actor and playwright Edmund John Eyre, 1767-1816: members of the Eyre family were connected in various capacities to the Theatre Royal, Edinburgh. Henry Eyre's sister Mary married the actor and painter Montague Stanley in 1833. A possible distant connection by marriage with the painter John Prescott Knight (see Adam White's note to Coll-10/3/55) may have assisted Eyre in becoming after 1849 successively clerk, Registrar and Secretary at the Royal Academy, London.
