Biography

Graduate of Merchiston Castle school (1899) and Univ. Edinburgh (MA in Classics, 1910). Married Dorothy Dickinson, an American missionary, in New York, USA 1920. They were sent to Peking, China by the London Missionary Society, where they worked with the Famine Relief Commission. Barbour also took many different academic posts in geology. During his time in China he served on the staff of the Chinese Geological Survey's Cenozoic Laboratory and was intimately associated with the discovery and dating of Peking Man. He returns to Cinncinatti, where he is associate, and progressively Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, part of the University of Cincinnati, Ohio, USA.
