Biography
Covell was born in 1923. Covell served as a missionary with the Conservative Baptist Foreign Mission Society (now World Venture) in China and Taiwan for twenty years. He translated the New Testament into the language of the Sediq, a Malayo-Polynesian people living in the mountains of Taiwan, and was a consultant on the translation of the Old Testament. Covell joined the faculty of Denver Seminary in 1966 as professor of missions and in 1979 became dean of the seminary and senior professor of world missions; he retired in 1990. His publications include Pentecost of the Hills in Taiwan: The Christian Faith among the Original Inhabitants (1998) and Confucius, the Buddha, and Christ: A History of the Gospel in Chinese (2004). He died February 2 2013 in Denver, Colorado.
