Aithippā (Scribe)

 Person

Biography

Copyist of Or Ms 257. Aithippā was a physician attached to the dispensary at Bījāpūr, who had spent a long time attending for his instruction upon Ḥakīm Muḥammad Ḥusayn Yūnānī and Ḥakīm Muḥammad Ma‘ṣūm Iṣfahānī.

There appears to be some confusion surrounding the copyist. The preface of Or Ms 257 appears to mention an Aithippā father of Chanpā, but the colophon appears to reference the author/scribe as Chanpā father of Aithippā. Furthermore, The catalogue by Hukk et al identifies the compiler of Or Ms 257 as Aithippā who compiled it for his son Chanpā. However, the catalogue also assumes that OR MS 251 and OR MS 252 were copied by Chanpā, son of Aithippā.
