Biography
Archibald Seton (1758-1818) was a Scottish East India Company colonial administrator, Resident and civil servant from 1780 to 1818. In 1806, Seton was appointed to the office of President at the Court of Shah Alam II, at Delhi, and after Alam's death to that of his successor, Akbar Shah II. In 1811 he was appointed Governor of Prince of Wales's Island [Penang] and joined the British force in the invasion of Java. The following year he was promoted to a seat in the Supreme Council of Bengal and died whilst en route to Britain in 1818.

A general history and topography of the ṣūbahs of India and the Dakhan (Deccan), composed by Rāi Chaturman (fol. 15), or, with his full name, Chaturman Rāi, a Kāyath of the tribe of Saksīnah, called Rāi-Zādah, and finished in 1173 A.H., 1759-1760 C.E., a week before his death.
