This notebook follows on from notebook 167, dates from 7 July to 21 or 22 July 1851 and relates particularly to Lyell’s visit to French Flanders and Belgium to compare Tertiary strata there with those of England, the results of which he published in 1852 “On the Tertiary strata of Belgium and French Flanders”, Quarterly Journal of the Geological Society, 1852, Vol 8, 277-370. Read at the Geological Society on 5 May 1852. The notebook starts before he left England, with to-do lists (“Mem.”)...
