Biography
Margaret Christie (née Campbell) was born on 4 April 1917 in Dunfermline, the younger daughter of Isabella M. Campbell and William Campbell. She studied at the Dunfermline College of Hygiene and Physical Education. During the Second World War, she joined the WAAFs in February 1942 where she worked as a physical training instructor, and she served in the Middle East as part of the first draft of the WAAF to go oversea. After being released from the WAAF in August 1946, she worked as a physical education teacher and married James Fortune Christie, an aircraft inspector, in July 1948. They spent some time in Malta, and then came to Perth, Australia where Margaret worked as a model while her husband managed a yacht club. She was a member of the Royal Life Saving Society (Australia) as an instructor and senior examiner. For her service, she was awarded the society's Honorary Associate Badge in 1957, the Recognition Badge in 1959 and the Bar to the Recognition Badge in 1963. She also ventured into horse racing as an owner.
Margaret Christie died at 79 in 1996 or 1997.
