William Houison (or Howieson) Craufurd, of Craufurdland and Braehead, 1781-1871 (Deputy-Lieutenant of the County of Ayr, Justice of the Peace, and Commissioner of Supply)

Biography
Born in 1781 to Rev James Craufurd (formerly Moody) and Elisabeth Howison Craufurd, William married Janet Esther Whyte, daughter of James Whyte of Newmains in 1808. He was educated at the High School of Edinburgh and then at the University of Edinburgh. An elder in the Church of Scotland, he aligned with the Free Church at the time of the Disruption. He died on 17 September 1871 and was buried at Fenwick churchyard.
