Westcott, Michael John Herbert, 1919-2005 (Assistant Secretary, University of Edinburgh)
Biography
Michael John Herbert Westcott was born in Plymouth in 1919 to Herbert Westcott and Margueritte Ellen Maggs. He was Assistant Secretary to the University of Edinburgh for over 30 years, retiring in around 1995. One of his responsibilities was to get the files created and managed by the University Secretariat onto a firm footing in terms of a robust filing scheme and he produced a report in which files were surveyed and organised. This took place before the appointment of a qualified University Archivist or Records Manager.
Michael also played a pivotal role in the Edinburgh Conversations of the 1980s, serving as Secretary to that group. He died in Edinburgh in 2005
