Currie, Alexander Monteith, 1926-2014 (Secretary, University of Edinburgh)

Biography

Alexander Currie was born in Stevenston, Ayrshire in 1926 and was educated at Stevenston High School and Porthmadog Grammar School before proceeding to Bangor University and then St Catherine's College, Oxford. He held adminstrative roles at Manchester, Liverpool and Sheffield Universities.

At Sheffield, he had worked under Hugh Robson and then followed Robson to Edinburgh, taking up the role of University Secretary in 1978 and serving in that role until his retiral in 1989. He died on 24 Aug 2014 in Edinburgh.
