Poem entitled 'Teanntac[hd] Mhor Na Feinn[e]' collected from Donul Mac a Bhi [Donald MacPhee], smith, Brèibhig/Breivig, Barraigh/Isle of Barra beginning 'La dh an Th[einn] shuas Druim-dearg, Freiteach blath ri mu Fhinn'. The poem is composed of forty two lines. The accompanying note states that he heard it 'from Ruari Ruadh mac Cuiein sa Cheanna Tuath (Uist) 50 years ago [c1817]' [Roderick MacQuien, Uibhist a Tuath/North Uist].

Scope and Contents Story about Art, a Fenian warrior, collected from Eachann Maciosaig [Hector MacIsaac], Iocar [Ìochdar, Uibhist a Deas/South Uist], who heard it from Ruari Rua [Roderick MacQuien, catechist] and accompanying notes from the informant about story-telling. Hector begins with the sloinneadh [patronymic] of Caramag mac Art. The story then relates how Art married Nighean Rìgh Lochlann but cheated on her. Story entitled 'Bas Osgair' [The Death of Oscar] and accompanying note collected from Iain Donnullach [John MacDonald], Lochephort [Loch Euphort/Locheport, Uibhist a Tuath/North Uist]. Note states that he heard 'these duans from Ruari MacCuinn [Roderick MacQuien] who lived at Malacleit [Malaclete] and who had a free piece of land there from the proprietor for his duans'.

Story entitled 'Cath ghlun nan Tarbh' [Cath Chluain Tarbh or Battle of Clontarf] probably collected from Mary MacInnes, Tigh Ghearraidh/Tigharry, Uibhist a Tuath/North Uist describing how she heard 'an extraordinary lay with her uncle [Roderick MacQuien, catechist] entitled Cathul an Tarbh'. She gives a short synopsis of the story which is about a fight between the bulls of Lochlan [Lochlann/Norway] and Eirinn [Èireann/Ireland].

Scope and Contents Story entitled 'Duan an Deirg' collected from Catrina nic Lachlain ruai [Catherine MacQuien] Clachan a Ghloip [Clachan na Lùib, Uibhist a Tuath/North Uist]. The note states that the informant learned the song from her uncle Ruarai ruadh mac Cuithein [Roderick MacQuien], catechist, Scolpaig [Uibhist a Tuath/North Uist] who had eighteen books on Fenian tales, which were burnt by his son 'who turned a F.C.' (Free Church). A transverse note on folio 20r reads 'Transcribed May 4 1869 A. A....

Story entitled 'Toirioc Na Taineac' collected from Eachan MacIssac [erroneously given as 'MacLeod' in the text] 'Each[ann] mac Ruari', Ceannlangabhat, [Iochdar, Uibhist a Deas/South Uist], who, the note states heard it from 'Ruary Rua' MacQuien, catechist when he was about fifteen or sixteen years old. Added that MacQuien had died about fifty years ago and that 'the lays of Os[sian] & the old stories of the Fian were his principal themes'.

Scope and Contents Transciption notebook belonging to Alexander Carmichael. The inside front cover is inscribed in ink with 'Bought at Wadebridge Cornwall Dec[ember] 1 1864 p 1/6 A A Carmichael' and the opposite page has 'A A Carmichael' written on it in pencil. The notebook contains Fenian songs or tales mainly collected in Uibhist a Deas/South Uist and Beinn na Faoghla/Benbecula, some of which are repeated in full or in part. These include 'Laoidh na Muileartaich', 'Duan an Deirg' and 'A' Bhraoin Chaorain'....

Twenty six verses of Fenian poetry beginning 'Dearamad fhagha s an Iuthraich/Iuraich gun do rinn Fionn' probably collected from Eachan MacIsaig [Hector MacIsaac] Ceannlangabhat, [Ìochdar, Uibhist a Deas/South Uist], who, the note states, 'Learnt this from Ruairi Rua ceistir sa cheanna Tuath (Donallach) more than 50 years' [Roderick MacQuien, catechist]. The verses amount to one hundred and two lines.
