The marjority of the notebook relates to material collected in Earra Ghàidheal/Argyllshire but there are a number of loose leaves at the end which contain an account of a journey from Uibhist/Uist through An t-Eilean Sgitheanach/Isle of Skye, during which time his wife, Mary is in Edinburgh and is pregnant. List of place-names and a note about lights probably collected from Duncan MacNiven, retired schoolmaster, Airds Earra Ghàidheal/Argyllshire including the different places known as 'Cnoc-Aingil', 'Dun-chathaich' and 'Dun-Cr[e]ag[ach]'. Some of the place-names are bracketed and the note reads 'These were lighted on danger' but it is not clear from the text exactly which place-names relate to lights. Text has been scored through as if transcribed elsewhere.

Story collected from Duncan Macniven, 'old schoolmaster', Cnoc na h-Aird, Taynuilt [Taigh an Uillt, Earra Ghàidheal/Argyllshire] about the 'Ceathirne-Choill' [ceatharnach-coille or outlaws] and how they were killed with a sword by Fear Bhail an deor [Fear Bhaile an Deòir, Baile an Deòra/Balindore] around an oak beam [sail dharaich] 'because they dwelt in the woods'.
