Scope and Contents Biographical notes on Aulay MacAulay and Tormod Clèireach [Norman MacIver], telling how Aulay MacAulay died in 1760 and that he was the son of Fear Bhreinish [Dugald MacAulay, Brenish, Eilean Leòdhais/Isle of Lewis]. There is a note of a daughter who left at fifteen years old although it is not clear if it is Dugald or Aulay's daughter. Aulay is noted as having three daughters. Notes on the family of Rev Aulay MacAulay of Na Hearadh/Isle of Harris, that he had six sons, one of whom was a baker in London, 'Mr Coinneach' [Rev Kenneth MacAulay] was the minister of Harris, then Ardnamurchan and then Caladeir [Cawdor] and Mr Aonas [Angus MacAulay] 'is said to have been mi[ni]st[er] of his fath[er]'. 'Coin[neach] Mac Onachai (Morrison) wrote Lord MacAul[ay] with whose people he had a comhaltas [family relationship]. No reply.'

Scope and Contents Song beginning 'Gu faod nar Fr. mo [cham] sin inse, Mun ghabh iad am ort us tu nad aide' which is composed of eighteen lines. The accompanying story tells how Iain Og Mharaig, son of Iain Sheilebost [Iain Òg Mhàraig/Young John of Màraig son of John of Seilebost, Na Hearadh/Isle of Harris], shot and killed raiders [possibly French raiders]. Story telling how Mrs MacDonald of Taransay's great grandfather died leaving one son. The child's mother being ill and unsure if she would put him into the care of Mr Auladh [Rev Aulay MacAulay] leaving him 'mile marag (mark)' for the son's education. MacAulay sent him to Stornoway [Steòrnabhagh/Stornoway, Eilean Leòdhais/Isle of Lewis] for three years and then taught him Latin himself, thus faithfully carrying out his duties.
