Note about the people of Rona [Rònaigh/North Rona] taken from John MacCulloch's The Highlands and Western Isles of Scotland that they are Roman Catholic, that each summer a boat is sent to Lewis [Eilean Leòdhais] to the Earl of Seaforth with 'the excresence of above thirty souls', something which the islanders 'exce[e]d[ingly] bewail'. Their annual payment to the Earl is 'some quantity of meal stitched up in sheeps skins and feathers of seafowls'. It is noted that...
