On the obverse is the embossed head of Isidore Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, facing left, with the inscription 'Isid(e) Geoffroy St Hilaire'. Below the head in small lettering is inscribed the medallist and engraver's name, 'Albert Barre'. On the reverse is the inscription 'J.
