Ridgeway offers his opinions on Ewart's 'excellent paper'. He states that he is sceptical as to the accuracy of cave drawings of horses, but is glad that Ewart expresses doubts as to the domestication of the horse. He recommends that Ewart provide explicitly the evidence of orseus remains from La Monthe, and is unsure about the claim that there are two different stocks in Arabian horses. Scope and Contents
Ridgeway reports that he has been in Ireland examining the other objects found along with the three horse skulls in the 'crannog discovery'. He writes that he and Coffey have dated them between the eighth and tenth centuries. He mentions a letter from Walter Harris concerning his enquiries about callosities on the legs of horses in Tangier.

Ridgeway writes that he is relieved that Ewart approves of his treatment of the Arab and the horses of western Asia, North Africa and the Mediterranean. He comments on the temperaments of various horses and the use of bits in different countries. He describes two photographs of Lofoden ponies, one of which was the last of its race and is now in the Bergen Museum.
