Thomson offers to change the date of his previous dinner invitation, and states that he has enclosed the Doolittle calculation along with the letter and card from M S Bartlett referred to in his last letter. These items have not survived in the collection.

Thomson suggests that while Bartlett's letter is interesting, he does not agree that his estimates are unbiased.
