1 (39), Ledermann to Thomson, and Thomson to Ledermann, 25 Apr 1939-26 Apr 1939
Scope and Contents
In Ledermann's letter to Thomson, dated 25 Apr 1939, he informs Thomson of his applying for the Carnegie Teaching Fellowship, which would allow him to undertake original research in the areas of pure matrix algebra and abstract group theory. He also mentions that he would like to devote some time to applied mathematics, specifically factor analysis, and asks Thomson for permission to continue the work he undertook as Thomson's assistant, perhaps with the help of Lawley.
In Thomson's reply, dated 26 Apr 1939, he tells Ledermann how pleased he is at the possibility of Ledermann's teaching fellowship and of him continuing work on factor analysis.
