Scope and Contents
Field notebook belonging to Alexander Carmichael while he lived at 15 Barnton Terrace, Edinburgh. The majority of the notebook contains charms, mainly for stopping bleeding, and cures, predominantly for cattle, along side notes about different people who have particular charms. There are also some stories stories relating to charms; obervations about geological and geographical features and many vocabulary notes. The material collected in this book was collected in Ros is Cromba/Ross and Cromarty predominantly in the Gearr Loch/Gairloch area. The handwriting in this notebook is particularly poor, and from folio 28r to folio 29v the handwriting is not Carmichael's though it is not known to whom it belongs.
