Story about a stoat in Ardnamurchan, 7 August 1886
Scope and Contents
Story probably collected from Duncan Cameron, police officer, Tobar Mhoire/Tobermory, Muile/Isle of Mull, telling how Eon Carmichael [Hugh Carmichael, Gomastra/Isle of Gometra] was working in Cill a choain at Tom a Chrochadan in Airdnamurchan [Cille Chòmhghain/Kilchoan, Ardnamurchan, Tom a' Chrochaidh all Earra Ghàidheal/Argyllshire] when chickens kept disappearing. The daughter of the house found a neas or stoat in a creel one morning and it had one of the chickens. She caught the chicken in one hand and the stoat in the other and Eon killed the stoat. Unfortunately the chicken was also dead as the stoat never relaxed its grip of it. Cameron adds a note on how 'horrible' stoats smell.
