Nandināgarī Charter, ?1504 CE
Scope and Contents
Nandināgarī Charter in Sanskrit, on 3 copper plates, with seal on ring. Issued by the (usurping) Emperor of Vijayanagara Immadi Nrsimha (Narasimha Raya II) in Saka year (elapsed?) 1426 (chronogram “rtu-netrabdhi-sitamsu”) corresponding to cyclic year Raktaksi (CE 1504?), full moon of Nabhasya, and conveying estates to Brahmins. (Similar to the Devulapalli charter of the same king published in Epigraphia Indica, VII, p.74ff).
Seal cut. Seal legend: tribhuvanāṃkuśa. Script (late southern Brāhmī) unmatches that of the plates. Seal misplaced? Re-used? EI 7.8 (Devulapalli plates) also has a seal (with boar, dagger, sun and crescent), but no legend. This seal and ring are evidently Eastern Cāḷukya and probably originally belonged to CP 6 (today without ring nor seal). This is confirmed in the edition of CP6 (referring to a memorandum by Walter Elliot) although the seal was already missing when Kielhorn edited the plates.
