Most of the files contain original letters from correspondents, as well as manuscript or carbon copies of Waddington's responses.

Arrangement
Handlist H41 separates out Waddington's correspondence with publishers, scientific journals and review papers, but includes some rather general categories such as 'Correspondence (miscellaneous)'. Because these papers all tend to deal in one way or another with Waddington's writing (whether academic research, reviews or publications), it was decided to group these files under one series, whilst maintaining the main divisions.
The arrangement is usually alphabetical by corresponding organisation, body or society, and chronological within sequence, otherwise simply chronological. Those files originally labelled 'Miscellaneous correspondence' have been shifted to the last in the series.
