piece
Identifier: Coll-1839/7/pp.418-419
Scope and Contents
Song titled "The Origin of the Rose." A note before the verses reads, "From the voyages and travels of Sir John Mandeville (one of my father's family)." Mandeville was the purported writer of the extremely popular travel memoir "The Travels of Sir John Mandeville" which first appeared in France in 1357 and was translated into many languages. Mandeville was, however, largely believed to be a fictional figure, and the actual identity of the author is unconfirmed.
