Song Lists, 1789-1857
Scope and Contents
These papers consist of loose leaf notes on which are listed the titles of songs written by Louisa. They are frequently arranged under thematic headings such as “Fairy Songs” “Comic” or refer to historical persons or events, such as “Anne Boleyn.” Others reference specific publishers, such as “Songs sold to Messrs D’Almaine and Co,” or include the volume numbers of the journals in which they appeared, such as several which list the songs published in The Metropolitan Magazine. The lists are written in the hands of both Louisa and her husband Matthew, and seem to represent a significant effort by the couple to track down and record the entirety of her published work, possibly for copying out into the manuscript notebook (Coll-1839/7).
