Scope and Contents
In these ten booklets, each stitched by hand in the corner or along the spine, Crawford’s poetical works are grouped and arranged into short collections or sequences. Including “To My Beloved” (containing poetry on the subject of love and addressed to Matthew), “Songs by Mrs Crawford” (divided under regional sub-headings of Scotch, Irish, Welsh and English airs), or “Prose and Poetical Works of Mrs Crawford, published in the Metropolitan Magazine.” Two of booklets also contain pieces of prose, including a short story titled “The Neapolitan Lovers,” and less structured ruminations on subjects such as patriotism, Christianity, and morality.
